In 1985, we opened the first Food ‘n Friends Kitchen at Centenary United Methodist Church in Attleboro serving free meals to the needy each Saturday. At the first meal 3 people came; in 2007 we served over 35,000 meals. We now have 6 kitchens serving those in need in Attleboro, North Attleboro, Seekonk and Mansfield. The kitchens provide nutritious meals to seniors, the working poor and homeless people. For many it will be the only warm meal they receive that day. Volunteers from local youth groups, churches and the synagogue take turns preparing and serving the meals. Our mealtime numbers are growing every month, and this year we anticipate serving over 40,000 people. The Council of Churches funds Food n’ Friends through donations and various grants. The CropWalk Fundraiser and the Feinstein Food Challenge also help each year in keeping this much needed program vibrant. Here is our current listing of the 6 Food n’ Friends Kitchens.
